Here it is in the flesh: one of the all-American showstoppers at this year’s New York International Auto Show, the new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. It smashed the quarter mile record with an impressive 9.65 seconds and is able to do a wheelie.

Packed with the latest technologies, there is no other production car that will kill it on the drag strip like this one. In fact it’s so fast, that the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) decided to ban it.

Its 6.2-liter V8 HEMI produces a stunning 840 hp and 1,043 Nm of torque, good for a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 2.3 seconds. Eat your heart out Tesla Model S P100D! In order to achieve such performance, the most extreme Challenger to date is fully oriented at devouring any straight stretch of tarmac. It drinks 100+ high octane unleaded fuel (a production car first) and comes with a serious cooling installation that keeps on cooling the supercharger even when the engine is shut off.

A transbrake system and torque reserve boost imminent performance from a standstill even more. The Challenger Demon managed to set a Guinness World Record with its 2.92 feet front axle lift off, something you normally only see in the movies!

This extraordinary drag racing tool will be made available in a limited 3,000 examples and is exclusively reserved for North America. It will arrive at Dodge showrooms by late summer this year. For more information on the new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, make sure to read our earlier release.
