Mercedes-Benz’ main reveal at this year’s New York International Auto Show is the 2018 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63. Powered by Mercedes’ 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine, it sprints from 0 to 100 km/h faster than its C 63 family member.

The GLC 63 will come in two different versions, the standard 63 with 476 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque and the more potent 63 S, good for 510 hp and 700 Nm of torque. The corresponding performance numbers are impressive: the GLC 63 S takes only 3.8 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. For reference, the C 63 sedan takes just over 4 seconds.

Standard will be the new 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system that was first introduced on the new E 63 AMG last fall. It continuously calculates the best possible torque distribution according to both the driving conditions and driver’s input. Additionally a so-called ‘wet clutch’ that replaces the conventional torque converter is standard too.

Also freshly adopted from the E 63 AMG is the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed transmission. It is specially calibrated for extra short and immediate shifting response. Further regulating the GLC’s impressive performance is a mechanical limited-slip differential mounted on the rear axle. The top GLC 63 S model will come standard with an electronic version.

The GLC 63 and GLC 63 S models will arrive at dealerships by September 2017. For more detailed information on the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 63, make sure to read our earlier release.
