As part of its partnership with Chinese technology company Letv, Aston Martin has revealed a Rapide S concept car that features Letv’s Internet of the Vehicle (IOV).
This Rapide S project, which was on show at CES 2016, has been engineered by the Letv IOV team and has focused on a new concept for the centre console and instrument panel. The centre console is now a 13.3-inch HD touch screen, while the instrument panel is now a 12.2-inch screen that has lots of electronic instrumentation and gauges.
The original human-machine interaction (HMI) has also been updated by integrating Letv’s latest speech recognition technology. Meanwhile, the Rapide S will also be able to to work with Letv’s other devices and include remote monitoring with the support of LeCloud through the vehicle’s Wi-Fi system.
Regarding the prototype, Andrew Palmer, CEO of Aston Martin said: “Aston Martin is renowned for the beauty and quality of its hand-crafted cars. The integration of Letv advanced connected technologies into this bespoke environment is a natural progression as we look to the future demands of our customers.”
Aston Martin and Letv signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on in December 2015 which includes cooperating in autonomous technology and electric vehicles. Letv has a huge presence in China and is working on its own electric supercar that could be produced at Aston’s UK facility. Meanwhile, it also has investment in Faraday Future.
