At RM Sotheby’s London auction of September 7, a spectacular 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione Tour de France by Scaglietti will cross the auction block. It is tipped to sell for between 4.5 million and 5.5 million euros.

This particular Tour de France is chassis number 0897 GT and is a stunning 1958 example and one of just thirty-six examples built with the covered headlights and single louver between the rear and side windows.

Soon after being produced, this Tour de France competed in the Gran Premio della Lotteria di Monza in mid-1959. In the same year, it was raced at the Cote de la Faucile where it finished 2nd in class and 13th overall. At the 1959 Tour de France, it again finished second in class.

Soon after, the vehicle was exported from Italy to the United States and in the coming years, passed through the hands of numerous owners. In 1995, it was sold to a German collector who exported it back to Europe where in the proceeding 17 years, it completed in a selection of different rallies and racing events including five appearances at the Mille Miglia. Recently, the car underwent a full engine built by GTO Engineering.
