Production-Spec Gumpert Tornate to Arrive in Early 2015

Back in 2011, Gumpert revealed the Tornante in concept form. Built as a more road-oriented supercar than the range-topping Apollo, the Tornante certainly promised the goods. However, since Gumpert declared bankruptcy back in 2012 before receiving a vital round of founding last year, the Tornante hasn’t been seen since.

However at the Geneva Motor Show 2014, the small manufacturer managed to bring along a new car dubbed the Explosion. Yes, that is its real name. And with the revitalisation of the firm well under way, Gumpert sales and marketing boss Harald Schlegel revealed that the car could arrive in production form next year.

Set to be based off the platform of the Gumpert Apollo and built on request, the Gumpert Tornante will be an extremely limited run supercar. That’s okay however as Gumpert hopes the Explosion will rack up up to 200 annual sales when it hits the market.

It currently remains unclear just what will power the production-spec Tornante. However, we know that in concept form it featured an Audi V8 engine delivering an impressive 700 hp and 663 lb-ft of torque. We also know that the road-going Tornante will receive a slightly updated design compared to the original concept car.

A debut at the Geneva Motor Show 2015 in early March is likely.
