Saleen have been remarkably quiet of late. The 2017 Saleen S7 LM is the first we’ve heard recently about their bespoke supercar range. This 1,000 hp monster is built upon the 16-year old Saleen S7 chassis. It’s a proper American, twin-turbocharged 7.0-liter V8 machine. Just 7 examples are on offer!

The Saleen S7 marks the 20th Anniversary of Saleen S7R racing program which ran for 7 consecutive years. Very few details have been released about the car, although we do know that each one will be handbuilt at Saleen’s Corona, CA headquarters. Each car will feature a unique livery, wheel, interior, and “functional performance enhancements”.

The press release reminds us that the Saleen S7R racing program won at every major racetrack in the world, including Daytona, Sebring, Nurburgring, and a class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Steve Saleen said: “True to our form, we are bringing back America’s only true supercar. We are celebrating our winning heritage and advancing the performance DNA that Saleen was built around.”

The Saleen S7 platform uses steel and aluminium in a space frame-derived design. Bodywork is made entirely from carbon fiber. As soon as we have proper details on the latest version, we will update you.

As a company, Saleen has hit hard times. Back in 2014, it was being sued by its bank, it owed money to a law firm and it had resorted to paying contractors in stock. By September 30th, 2014, it only had $7,261 in cash left. The situation must have improved somewhat since the launch of the new Mustang.
