Bentley Bentayga Hits 301 km/h to Become World’s Fastest SUV

Bentley has delivered on its promise to make the upcoming Bentayga SUV the world’s fastest SUV with the car recently hitting 301 km/h (187 mph) in the midst of testing.

The incredible top speed was reached on a banked circuit and comfortably makes the Bentley Bentayga the world’s fastest SUV taking the title from the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and its 286 km/h top speed.

It has also been confirmed that the Bentayga will be available with Volkswagen’s brand new twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 TSI engine delivering a total of 600 hp at 6000 rpm and 664 lb-ft of torque between 1500 and 4500 rpm. Those figures also mean the Bentley Bentayga is the most powerful stock SUV on the planet.

Other engines expected to be offered will include a twin-turbo petrol 4.0-litre V8, a 4.2-litre V8 diesel from the 2015 Audi Q7 as well as a plug-in hybrid variant.

From a styling standpoint, recently leaked images of a 1:18 Bentayga scale model have revealed that the car’s design will be conventional Bentley. The headlamps and the front grille are inspired by Bentley’s Flying Spur models. Elsewhere, there’s chrome wheels and chrome elements on the windows and around the large taillights. The model in the leaked pictures also has a double-sunroof as well as oval-shaped exhaust pipes.
