The former chief of BMW M, Rolls-Royce and Maserati, Karl-Heinz Kalbfell has been killed during a freak motorcycle accident at Brands Hatch on the weekend.
Kalbfell was fatally wounded during a race when he lost control of his motorcycle at Druids Corner. He was then hit behind from a fellow competitor.
During his time at BMW M’s Division, Kalbfell played a pivotal role in the company’s successful run during the 1990s when BMW engines were used in Morgans as well as the legendary McLaren F1. He also led BMW’s development of the Rolls-Royce Phantom.
