Yesterday at a preview of the Geneva Motor Show 2017” target=”_blank”>2017 Geneva Motor Show Japanese premium marque Infiniti took the wraps off their Project Black S concept car based on the Infiniti Q60 sports coupé. The concept car was developed in collaboration with Renault’s Formula One division and features some groundbreaking tech.

The impressive looking concept car boasts an intimidating look courtesy of the carbon fiber aerodynamic styling package. The front splitter, rear diffuser, fenders, side skirts and rear wing incorporate plenty of the lightweight material. Exclusive 21-inch lightweight wheels that come out real nicely with the matt grey paint job finish the car’s look from the side.

A new lightweight titanium exhaust system reduces further weight and back pressure. The optimized air flow thanks to the enlarged air intakes at the front and the significant weight savings in general contribute to balancing the scales with the addition of groundbreaking though heavy hybrid technology.

Drawn from the Formula One division of Renault, the Infiniti concept car features an advanced energy recovery system (ERS) that recuperates kinetic energy from braking and heat energy from exhaust gases. The recovered energy is then stored in high-grade discharge lithium-ion batteries, which boosts power and torque in an attempt to effectively eliminate turbo lag. With this technology, Infiniti says that it could potentially increase the output of their new 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine by as much as 25%.

Infiniti’s primary objective is to gauge potential interest for their concept car and evaluate the development of a high performance model series. Having seen their concept car in the flesh, we feel comfortable saying they have our blessing!
