World renowned German sports car magazine Sport Auto recently published their review of the new BMW 1M. The stand out news in the review is that it lapped the Hockenheim track in 1:14.1, which is faster than they managed in the E92 M3 ZCP DCT which did a 1:14.2. It also registered a 0-100km/h time of 4.7 seconds and a 0-200km/h time of 17.2.
To put the time into some greater perspective, here is how some of the 1M’s competitors compared around Hockenheim.
Sport Auto gave the 1M 10 out of 10 for driving pleasure, and commentated that it was tail happy, when driven with the DSC turned off, stating that it “reminds them of the old BMW times. It’s good to know that not all cars are tuned in to understeer for safety reasons”. Sport Auto went on to sing high praise for the 1M saying; “The 1M is all you need in a sports car.”
0:0.1 second difference isn’t necessary “beating”. If you do the test a few more times, it could go either way.
