As the Volkswagen Group dieselgate scandal continues, it has emerged that famed actor Leonardo DiCaprio will produce a film about the scandal after Paramount acquired the movie rights.

The film will be based around the book currently being written by New York Times correspondent Jack Ewing detailing the dieselgate scandal. Set to comprehensively document VW’s ongoing woes, the book will look in detail at how the German conglomerate cheated diesel emissions tests by installing software that limited emissions when its 2.0-litre diesel was being tested by the U.S.’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Alongside DiCaprio, the movie will be produced by Jennifer Davisson through the pair’s Appian Way company. As of yet, no actors or a director have been named for the film and such details are unlikely to come any time soon.

It remains to be seen how much Paramount paid for the movie rights but the book proposal itself sold for mid-six figures.
