We recently published an article about what was advertised as a Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR AMG up for sale at Ferrari-Maserati Fort Lauderdale. Well our sources have indicated that the car for sale isn’t in fact an original CLK GTR AMG but rather the even more exclusive CLK GTR Super Sports which was converted back into the base model to which our source claims only one unit was ever produced, despite conflicting reports suggesting that at least two were created.
Nevertheless, it’s still much rarer than a regular CLK GTR AMG as 25 examples of that car was produced. Additionally, this former CLK GTR Super Sports has a very interesting back story which involves the car originally being almost destroyed in a strong storm in Dubai which saw a roof collapse on top of the car, thus rendering it completely undrivebale and almost unrepairable.
However, the car managed to find a new home in Switzerland where it was then repaired but to the more basic CLK GTR AMG state and has then been shipped to the US where it is currently for sale. As a result of this unfavourably history, the car has remained unsold for some time.
It’s currently unclear if the car we reported for sale was fitted with the original 7.3 liter V12 AMG engine of the original Super Sports, but if it is then it pumps out an additional 100hp when compared to the stock CLK GTR AMG and has a theoretical top speed nearing 400km/h.
