Following the release of the sketches of the Audi R8 GT Spyder, Audi has now released the full details of the upcoming Spyder supercar and a few images. The Audi R8 GT Spyder follows the release of the Audi R8 GT last year. Like its hard top brother the R8 GT Spyder is limited to just 333 units and carries a base price of 207,800 Euro in Germany.
The Audi R8 GT Spyder is based on the R8 V10 Spyder and comes with a more powerful 5.2 liter V10 FSI engine with an output of 560hp and 540Nm of torque. The sprint from 0-100km/h can be done in 3.8 seconds and the R8 GT Spyder is capable of reaching a 317km/h top speed. The essence of the Audi R8 GT Spyder is a lighter and more powerful R8 Spyder that is 85kg lighter than a standard R8 Spyder.
Two materials in particular are responsible for the weight saving in the Audi R8 GT Spyder; carbon fiber-reinforced polymer and glass fiber-reinforced polymer. This is used on both the exterior as the interior of the new flagship Spyder and resulted in a total weight of just 1,640kg. The lightweight fabric soft top goes up or down in 19 seconds and can be operated at speeds up to 50km/h.
The Audi R8 GT Spyder is up against some fierce competition including the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Spyder Performante and the recently released Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster.
