After many spyshots and an early release, Mercedes-Benz has now officially unveiled the SLS AMG Roadster, their newest flagship that will be shown to the big public during Frankfurt Motor Show next September.
The roadster features a three-ply soft top that can be raised or lowered in just eleven seconds at a maximum speed of 50km/h. Despite the roof being fully automatic with a glass rear window, it doesn’t steal any trunk space and the extra weight is still held to the minimum, with just 40kg.
On the inside there’s a wealth leather combined with metallic trims and AMG sports seats. Nice points on the option list is the Bang&Olufsen audio system and an AMG Performance Media system that displays real-time vehicle information.
What we already knew is that the power is coming from a 6.3 liter V8 engine that produces 563bhp together with 650Nm of torque. The engine is connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, which enables the car to accelerate from standstill to 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds and hit a limited top speed of 317km/h.
Ola Källenius, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said:
Systematic lightweight construction, outstanding performance and a breathtaking design combined with sensuous open-air driving pleasure – the new SLS AMG Roadster perfectly embodies the AMG philosophy of German engineering and craftsmanship. The gullwing model has already thrilled sports car fans all over the world, and now the convertible version is bound to cause a sensation.
