The 2024 Safari Rally was held in the last weekend of March 2024 and we had the pleasure of attending this rigoruous event for a total of 4 days. Considered the world’s toughest rally, the organizer moved this year’s event from June to March in order to catch the start of the annual torrential rains.

The competitors were divided into three categories namely Rally 1, Rally 2 and Rally 3. Over 20 drivers and their respective navigators took part in the event which covered 19 stages and a distance of 355km in Nairobi and Naivasha.

Toyota managed to take home a 1-2 podium finish thanks to the P1 finish by Kalle Rovanperä/Jonne Halttunen and the P2 finish of the other Toyota GR Yaris of Takamoto Katsuta/Aaron Johnston. Ford rounded of the podium with a P3 from Adrien Fourmaux and his navigator Alexandre Coria in the M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 car.

Despite a strong start to the weekend, Hyundai’s best car finished in P5 behind the third Toyota of Elfyn Evans. Thierry Neuville and Martijn Wydaeghe finished fifth in the #11 Hyundai i20N Rally1.

Rally 2’s win went to Gus Greensmith and Jonas Andersson driving the #22 Skoda Fabia R5 from Toksport WRT. Skoda diminated this class with a 1-2-3 finish, with P2 going to Oliber Solberg/Elliott Edmondson and P3 going to Kajetan Kajetanowicz/Maciej Szczepaniak.
