On September 18th, in test drives on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, a Porsche 918 Spyder prototype turned in a lap time of just 07:14 minutes for the 20.6km-long circuit. The lap time of the Porsche 918 Spyder prototype is one of the best ever clocked for street-legal vehicles with standard production tyres.
The course was only available to the development team from Weissach for one lap, and it had to be started from a standstill. The plug-in hybrid super sports car with over 795hp was equipped with production tyres from development partner Michelin as well as the optional Weissach package, which integrates modifications that boost driving performance.
The news follows the reveal of leaked details of the production Porsche 918 Spyder over the past few days. The Porsche 918 Spyder will get a combustion engine and two independent electric motors – one on the front axle and one in the drive line, acting on the rear wheels. The engineering and design focus is centered on minimal fuel consumption and maximum performance. We are told that Porsche engineers have been impressed so far with the testing results.

#1 No one outside of Porsche AG has confirmed this
#2 A ‘ prototype ‘ is Not by definition ‘ street legal ‘ , having only temporary road registration to get it thru its testing procedures
Hence a bit of pre production Smoke & Mirrors on behalf of Porsche . e.g. Nice bit of entertaining reading but don’t take any of this as fact or a prelude as to what the actual ‘ street legal ‘ ( production version ) will do ;-)
@guitarslinger, Porsche released an official press release regarding these facts, so yes it is officially coming from Porsche ;)
Wow GS you really think you are in the know, must be so what of a let down most of the time.
But wait dont foget GS i understand psychology being consciousness about as good as it gets being how one thinks how thoughts come about, dont forget my little friend being a master in the industrie of not knowing, there is an economy in “not” knowing.
