Supercar of the year 2008

Exactly like we did last year, we held a poll, in our forum, to find out what the supercar of the year 2008 would be. To clear out any possible misunderstanding, all supercars that firstly hit the road as well as the supercars shown in worldpremiere to the public during 2008 on numurous car shows, were elected. The 10th option was other cars because the list of stunning cars was just too long to get in one poll, thinking of the Koenigsegg CCXR and the Alfa Romeo 8C Convertible.

The top three has slightly changed but at the very first place it’s again a Lamborghini. We guess that’s not a big surprise after the presentation of the Gallardo LP560-4. It got 18.01% of the votes. The 2nd place is taken by Mercedes-Benz with it’s SL 65 AMG Black Series. The Germans won one place compared to last year. And then to close the top three we get what we can call the biggest surprise, not the the Ferrari California but the Aston Martin V12 Vantage RS.

1st: Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4

We believe this car really deserves to be called ‘supercar of the year 2008’. The way the guys from Lamborghini made the design look even better than the old one and make it have more horsepower is just amazing.

2nd: Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series

Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series

This must be the most stunning Mercedes-Benz made sofar. With it’s 670 bhp it’s shamelessly aiming for Ferrari and Lamborghini! The design of it only make you getting feared when it appears in your back view mirror.

3rd: Aston Martin V12 Vantage RS

Aston Martin V12 Vantage RS

As said before this is the revelation of the year. A V12 in the small Vantage is just extreme. The looks are typical Aston Martin, but that is maybe why it is here this high in the top 10!

4th (1): Dodge Challenger SRT 8

Dodge Challenger SRT-8

An American muscle at the 4th place. Why not? We think that’s not at all a surprise, because this car is actually a beast and almost everybody can fall in love with it from the very first second.

4th (2): Ferrari California

Ferrari California

This is the opposite of the Dodge. Only 4th place for a car that was announced with the biggest press attention we saw this year, but it seems that the baby Ferrari didn’t make it into people’s hearts(yet).

4th (3): Nissan GT-R

Nissan GT-R

The best we saw from Japan in a while! This car was very promissing after the first tests and it prooved that it was a decent supercar after lapping the Nrburgring in a top time!

5th: Maserati Gran Turismo S

Maserati Gran Turismo S

Good looking but not yet good enough to attract Ferrari and Lamborghini owners. But we believe that this car has a future. We’ll see what 2009 brings, maybe a spyder!

6th (1): Rolls Royce Phantom Coup

Rolls Royce Phantom Coup

There are not much words to discribe this car. It’s extreme high level of luxery made it probably part of the top 10.

6th (2): Porsche Panamera

Porsche Panamera

The last one to close the top 10, which become a top 6, is the Panamera. There are many different opinions about this car but we say you can’t judge it before you actually first tested it and saw it in real skin. On the other hand, Porsche is and stays a sports-car manufacturer which means that 4 door saloons don’t really fit in the range of cars.

The 10th category in our poll was ‘others’, simply because there are always people who don’t find there supercar of the year in our list and we just can’t list all the beauties of 2008.

The first car coming out of that category, with 4 votes was the Porsche 997 GT2. In fact that doesn’t really belong in this list, because it was presented back in 2007 and it was on the 9th place in our top 2007. Nevertheless, it is and stay’s an amazing car!
Next up was the Swedish piece of art, the Koenigsegg CCXR with 3 votes. The looks, the power and the competition with the Bugatti Veyron are the ingredients that make it special.
Other votes went to the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport, only 1, the RUF CTR3 and the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione Convertible.

Last but not least we like to thank al our readers to vote this poll!
