Recently emerged spy shots show that BMW seems to be working on an M-version of their upcoming new BMW X3. Codenamed G01, the next-generation BMW X3 will get a new CLAR architecture platform similar to the new BMW X5.

The new BMW X3 is expected to be much lighter than its predecessor, thanks to its new platform and an increase of CFRP use. Despite getting a tweaked chassis, the new X3 will most likely not get significantly more space on the inside. There are however plenty of other reasons to consider buying the new BMW X3, one of them being that a serious amount of tech featured on the latest BMW 7-Series will be making its way to the 2017 X3.

The tech upgrade includes enhanced driving assistants and satellite-aided transmission, as well as possibly the hand gesture control as featured on the 7-Series. For now the latest X4 M40i gives a solid impression of what we can expect of the X3 M at a minimum. We further predict a modest design evolution for the X3, while the X3 M should get a slightly more aggressive styling package.
