Not too long ago it was confirmed that Jaguar is planning to create more R-S GT variants in the future, with one of the notable recipients of that nameplate pinned to be the Jaguar F-Type. Now, further information about that possible supercar have been released suggesting the new Jaguar F-Type R-S could produce well over 700hp and consequently be capable of comfortably hitting speeds in excess of 200mph.
While speaking with AutoExpress, a source working for the company said, “We have done an R-S version with over 700bhp that will do over 200mph – it’s going to be insane.” That source then went onto reveal that the upcoming Jaguar F-Type R-S will feature a French Racing Blue paint scheme.
It’s not yet clear if the Jaguar F-Type R-S will only be offered as a hardcore variant for the Jaguar F-Type Coupe or if it’ll also be available for the regular Jaguar F-Type convertible, but with the Jaguar F-Type Coupe not pinned to hit production until sometime next year, don’t expect this halo supercar variant any time before 2016.
To achieve the additional 200+hp over the standard Jaguar F-Type V8 S, the F-Type R-S will likely borrow some engine technology from the 900hp Jaguar C-X75 hybrid supercar. That would make sense as Jaguar did reveal after cancelling the C-X75 from production, that some of its technologies would be passed down into future Jaguar models. If such reports turn out to be true, then the Jaguar F-Type R-S could completely abandon the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 from the current range-topping F-Type in place of a supercharged 1.6-liter engine with multiple electric motors to generate the aforementioned 700hp.
