This is the brand new 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series, the latest member to the Black Series family. The Germans released all details after an initial teaser release yesterday and ahead of the public debut of the new SLS AMG at the Los Angeles Motor Show starting in three weeks time.

The technical improvements for the engine included in the new Black Series package include custom-build camshafts, new air intakes, and improved oil and water cooling. The 6.2 liter V8 engine offers a performance 635hp and 635Nm of maximum torque. Its redline has been moved from 7,200rpm to 8,000rpm.

Thanks to the extra performance and faster gear shift times the Black Series goes from zero to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds, which is two tenths faster than its 571hp-strong brother. In terms of top speed, the SLS AMG BS reaches 315, instead of 317km/h for the SLS AMG GT. This is mainly due to the newly fitted rear wing and changed aero package.

The Black Series weighs 70kg less due to the use of carbon fiber. The total dry weight is 1,550kg. The splitter, side skirts and diffuser are made of carbon fiber, and the exhaust system is titanium. With a weight of 17kg, this saves a substantial 13 kilos over the stock system on the SLS AMG GT.

The new Black Series ride on 20 inch lightweight forged alloy wheels with standard carbon ceramic brakes. An optional carbon fiber aero pack is available and includes an adjustable rear wing and front dive planes which should create more downforce and improve high-speed stability. It also has a new electronic locking differential and a carbon fiber driveshaft. An Adaptive sports suspension and launch control are also part of this special package.

Inside, you will spot a complete carbon fiber dashboard package and a cabin dressed in alcantara. The center console is completely made of carbon, and the carbon fiber sport seats kill 15kg of the total weight. The Germans also saved six kilos by removing the multimedia system. The main battery is lithium-ion, which saves a further 8kg.

The SLS ANG BS is wider than standard SLS AMG GT. The front and rear wheel arches are respectively 13mm and 26mm wider, and the track width is increased by 20 and 24mm.

The pricing of the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series will double the SLS AMG GT price at around 400,000 euros including VAT and depending on local taxes. No information yet on a limited number of cars produced. The new Black Series will be available in showrooms in June next year.

  1. Amazing!! was waiting for this for so long :D

Alex, i agree with you it, is a bit much comparing to the SL black series that even had a v12. But to be honest if you have the money to buy a car like this you wouldnt care that much in my opinion.

  2. As everyone has said is is thinking, It’s over-priced and I will probably invest in a 458 than this as the price does not correctly correspond to the product of the car.
