The International Superstars Series came to Donington Park, England on 19th and 20th May 2012. The weekend had various short races across the two days, including two Superstars Races which had an array of magnificent cars racing including MTM’s Audi RS5, Maserati Quattroporte, BMW M3, Mercedes AMG, Chevrolet Lumina and Jaguar XF/R5.
One of the main attractions of the weekend was the former F1 racer Johnny Herbert who came third in Race one. BTCC driver Tom Onslow-Cole also completed in both races qualified in third postition but did not do as well as he had hoped in the Jaguar XF with 18th place in race one and a DNF in race two.
In both races on Sunday Audi dominated, finishing 1-2 on both races. The Audi RS5 with its fully electronic petrol direct injection FSI and front longitudinal V8 engine flew around the race track. There were three Audi’s present one of which struggled on both races to fire-up from the starting grid.
Thomas Schoeffler and his team managed to push-start the car from the end of pit lane to join the first race once all cars had completed the rolling start. Schoeffler drove superbly and managed to get his No 47 RS5 to sixth position. However on race two he was not as lucky and was unable to get his car started at the end of pit lane and was forced to retire.
Gianni Morbidelli won both races ahead of his team mate Johan Kristoffersson.
