Today did not start as a lucky day, but in the end provided us with the best possible experience you can have when you are close to Stuttgart, Germany. While driving down South, we spotted this wonderful white 2012 Porsche 911 (991) Carrera S.
After the release of the brand new and sixth generation 911 at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show a few weeks ago, the sports car is hitting the streets near the German city quite often. Our editorial team, which is heading to Leonberg for a series of drive tests, spotted the white 991 Carrera S on the Autobahn A81 25km North of Stuttgart.
While chasing the German sports car our photographer Willem de Zeeuw shot some really nice shots, which you will see below. We even raced the 911 on unlimited Autobahn and it is really fast! Easily faster than our BMW 135i MR Edition project car with 340hp and 380Nm. It easily took the lead and closed any gap behind us. It was quite an unique sight to have the new Carrera S in your rear view mirror.
Just a small recap. The latest member of the Porsche family is powered by a direct injection 3.8 liter flat six which delivers 400hp and 440Nm of torque. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a seven-speed manual transmission or the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), which improves the performance.
With the manual transmission, acceleration from nought to 100km/h is done in 4.5 seconds. The 911 Carrera S with PDK manages to accelerates to 100km/h in 4.3 seconds. Pressing the Sport Plus button on the optional Sport Chrono package cuts that to 4.1 seconds. The top speed is 304km/h.
