The first spy shots of the 2017 BMW X3 M40i have been captured!

While the name may be a mouthful, the new 2017 X3 M40i is set to be BMW’s high performance model in the extremely popular X3 range. These photos were captured near BMW’s USA manufacturing plant located in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

While one would assume BMW would complete most of their development and testing work back in Germany, the Spartanburg plant is the factory where all X-series models are built. This is mostly due to the fact that the X-series range is extremely popular here in the United States.

Compared to the standard versions of the X3, this M-Performance version will receive various styling tweaks including revised bodywork as well as a Sport Exhaust System finished in black chrome.

The X3 M40i is expected to feature a more powerful engine – likely a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six. Expect power output to be in the range of 355 horsepower according to current reporting.
