Audi has won the second round of the 2016 Blancpain GT Sprint Cup at Brands Hatch today with the #33 Audi R8 LMS of Belgian Audi Club Team WRT, driven by Enzo Ide and Christopher Mies. HTP Motorsport claimed second place after starting from pole while Bentley Boys Maxime Soulet and Andy Soucek rounded off the top three in the #8 Bentley Continental GT3.
Bernd Schneider and Jules Szymkowiak started the race from pole in the #86 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of HTP Motorsport and managed to open a good lead in the early laps. Ide in the #33 Audi fought side by side with fellow Audi driver Marlon Stockinger before the #8 Bentley caught up with them.
At the wheel of the Bentley was Soulet who started from 10th place, he fought his way up to fifth after only two laps before catching up with the leading HTP Motorsport Mercedes. After the mandatory pit stops, the #33 Audi now in the hands of Mies was the quickest among the top three. Mies emerged on top after the Bentley and Mercedes made their stops with new drivers as well, the Audi went all the way to claim the chequered flag.
Fourth place went to Rob Bell and Alvaro Parente in the #58 Garage 59 McLaren 650S GT3 while Marlon Stockinger and Franck Perera rounded off the top five in the #74 ISR Audi R8 LMS.
Michele Beretta and Luca Stolz won the Silver Cup in the #19 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of GRT Grasser Racing Team, sharing the podium with the #100 Attempto Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 and the #22 Nissan GT-R GT3 from Nissan GT Academy Team RJN.
The Pro-AM Cup win went to Michal Broniszewski and Giacomo Piccini in the #11 Kessel Racing Ferrari 458 Italia, AKKA ASP claimed P2 in this class with their Mercedes-AMG GT3 with third place going to Black Pearl Racing Ferrari 458 GT3.
Round 2 of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup will go down this coming weekend at the Silverstone circuit in the UK.
