BMW 9-Series Coupe Reportedly in the Works

BMW is said to be considering producing an 9-Series Coupe model which could rival the stunning Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe.

BMW Blog reports that the 9-Series Coupe could be based around the new aluminium architecture of the next-generation Rolls-Royce Phantom. Additionally, it may utilise a carbon fibre reinforced plastic passenger cell just like the latest 7-Series to help ensure that it weighs as little as possible. Further Phantom influence is expected with the use of suicide doors.

Design wise, the BMW 9-Series Coupe is tipped to take inspiration from the sleek Vision Future Luxury Concept meaning it should look particularly modern and be easily identifiable as a BMW. Inside, all the technologies of the 7-Series can be expected as can even higher quality materials and trims.

Powering the 9-Series Coupe will be a range of engines include a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 available in both petrol and diesel guises. There will also be a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 as well a plug-in hybrid variant.
