Just yesterday, a pre-production model of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was spied testing hard on the Nurburgring. Unfortunately however, the potent American supercar feel victim to Green Hell after crashing on the legendary German circuit.

Specific details about the crash remain unclear but it is believed that General Motors test driver Jim Mero was behind the wheel. Thankfully, he escaped the crash unharmed.

It is suggested that the yellow Corvette Z06 was at the Nurburgring to set an official lap time. Due to the damage sustained however, it appears as though another Z06 may be seen lapping the ‘Ring in the coming days. A blue example was recently spotted at a gas station near the circuit.

Under the hood, the Corvette Z06’s brand new 6.2-litre LT4 supercharged V8 engine delivers 650 hp and an equal 650 lb-ft of torque. Peak horsepower is reached at 6400 rpm while peak torque is found at 3600 rpm. Excitingly, 90 per cent of the total torque figure is available from just 2500 rpm through to 5400 rpm.
