Following a recent leaked image of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé, the car has officially been revealed before its debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show 2014 in early March. Following on from its official public debut in March, it will hit dealerships around the world in the second half of 2014.
As it stands, the first variant to be introduced is the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S 500 Coupé. Just like its sedan sibling which we had the lucky chance to drive last year, the S 500 Coupé features a 4.6-liter V8 biturbo engine delivering a total of 455 hp and a peak of 700 Nm of torque. Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz has yet to release performance times for the new Mercedes-Benz S 500 Coupé but that shouldn’t be surprising considering this car is all about luxury and style and not outright acceleration nor top speed.
The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé features an improved Magic Body Control system which first debuted on the ‘regular’ S-Class sedan. A new feature dubbed the curve tilting function of the Magic Body Control system which is a first for a series production car now debuts on the S-Class Coupe. Mercedes-Benz claims that this system enables the S-Class Coupé to enter into bends just like a motorcyclist or a skier. The system reduces the lateral acceleration and helps to secure the occupants more firmly.
As with the sedan, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé is available with an array of other systems include Pre-Safe brake with pedestrian detection, Distronic Plus with Steer Assist and Stop&Go Pilot, Bas Plus with junction assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive high-beam Assist Plus and Night View Assist Plus. An additional Collision Prevention Assist Plus is available. So to put it in lamens terms, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé is essentially available with any automotive function you could dream of.
From a design standpoint, the road-going Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe remains very true to the original Coupe Concept revealed last year. The front-end is significantly sleeker than the sedan’s and is more vertical than the Coupes while also featuring more traditional headlights, albeit complete LED units. However, in our opinion, it actually looks better than the original concept!
The stunning sleek design continues through to the rear where the S-Class Coupe maintains similar taillights to the concept while featuring a more aggressive rear bumper and rear diffuser. And don’t forget that the S 500 is the base S-Class Coupe meaning future models including the AMG variants will be even more aggressive! If you look closely at the side profile, it has maintained similar lines as to those from the CLA-Class and when combined with the flowing roof, and extremely sleek windows, there’s no doubting that the fact that the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe is a truly breathtaking car to look at!
When discussing the design of the S-Class Coupe, Vice President of Daimler Gorden Wagener said, “Our new S-Class Coupé is one of the most gorgeous coupés of all times, representing the most radical aesthetic departure from its predecessor. The sensuous flowing silhouette in interplay with the clear progressive design language forms a perfect symbiosis and expresses our philosophy of sensual purity with pithy precision.”
In the cabin, a host of options are available like the sedan. Some of the most notable include the Air-Balance package which fragrances the car to the owner’s choosing. Additionally, the car can come with one of two different surround sound systems courtesy of Burmester. Elsewhere in the cabin, the car remains very similar to the S-Class Coupe with your eyes being immediately drawn to the two massive LED screens on the dashboard.
