Having seen the production ready Porsche 918 Spyder at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show 2013 after getting a glimpse of it a Pebble Beach we can confirm that the car is not only an engineering marvel with its mid-mounted 4.6-litre V8 engine producing 608 bhp, but a car that looks superb in the flesh.
Porsche have released the first official images of the car in on the road and it look sublime. Porsche are yet to disclose the date that lucky customers will receive their cars but we cant wait to see them on the road.
More about the science project of a drivetrain that the 918 features. The V8 is then supplemented by a further two electric motors mounted on each axle. The electric motors can either drive the wheels independently or work together with the engine to boost performance. Each motor produces enough power to boost the total figure over an incredible 880 bhp. A seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) controls power delivery to the rear wheels.
It’s not just the engine that makes this car so special. The car has taken a number of technological queues from Porsche’s legendary racing experience and as a result in a carbon fibre monocoque and a multi-link chassis. This concoction of a powerful drive train, light weight body and other racing dna means that the 918 Spyder can lap the Nurburgring in a scarcely believable, a lap that will take under 7 minutes, breaking the production car record on the world famous proving track.
