Rendering: McLaren MP4-12C Spider

McLaren is planning the release of their roofless version of the MP4-12C. Spyshots of the The MP4-12C Spider were released last week showing a nearly finished sports car with a three-piece roof manufactured by Lotus. Wild-Speed decided to come up with a series of renderings showing his idea of how the Spider could look like.

The three-piece roof will convert the McLaren MP4-12C from coupe to roadster in around 17 seconds, and will operate at speeds of up to 5mph in case you get caught short at the traffic lights. The targa top has two high-rise buttresses, which will keep the driver and passenger safely cocooned from the elements. The engine is still visible via the clear cover, on the contrary to the 458 Spider.

The mechanicals should remain the same as the coupe’s. So you’ll find a 592bhp twin-turbocharged 3.8 liter V8 engine perfectly fitted behind the cabin. A seven-speed twin-clutch Seamless Shift Gearbox (SSG) is to be the only transmission offered with shifting controlled via paddles mounted behind the steering wheel.
