We are very pleased to announce the winners of our annual supercar and tuning awards! This year we added two new categories and awarded both Readers’ Choice and Editors’ Choice awards based on votes from our visitors and the favorites of our editorial team. Over 13,000 votes were cast by visitors and readers of GTspirit. Together with the favourites of our team of editors and contributors this resulted in ten winners over five different award categories. We like to congratulate all the winners, they have been notified of their award!

GTspirit Hypercar of the Year 2011: Koenigsegg Agera R

The Readers’ Choice Hypercar of the Year 2011 is the Koenigsegg Agera R. The Agera R truly deserves the hypercar award! Recently the Koenigsegg Agera R set the Guiness World Record for fastest production car from 0-300-0km/h with a time of 21.19 seconds. True hypercar figures to fit a truly unique vehicle.

The only dual award winner this year is the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4. From a list of ten nominees the Aventador took first place claiming 65 percent of all the votes. A clear win, which was acknowledged by the editorial team who presented the Italian supercar with the Editors’ Choice award for Supercar of the Year 2011.

The Tuning Car of the Year 2011 in the Readers’ Choice category is the AMS Performance Alpha 12 GT-R, an ultra-fast sports car project based on the Nissan R35 GT-R. The US tuner made history in 2011. The AMS Alpha 12 GT-R became the fastest recorded street car to date from 60-130mph and the world’s first 8 second R35 GT-R.

Supercar Photo of the Year 2011 Readers' Choice

A new category this year to celebrate the achievements of automotive photographers is the Supercar Photo of the Year 2011. Our readers were not unanimous in their decision, but the number one eventually went to Thomas van Rooij with his photo of the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 Super Veloce while fighting its matador as a true bull in the arena.

The specialist from Bottrop has a long standing record as one of the most famous and technologically advanced tuners in the world. This year three of their creations were nominated for the Tuning Car of the Year title and that proves the incredible work they have done the past year, pushing the limits of Mercedes-Benz tuning and customization further and further.

The GTspirit editorial team awarded a picture by GF. Williams. The McLaren MP4-12C in the picture is dressed in Volcano Orange and parked in London. GF. Williams picture was praised for its composition and beauty. The editorial team also praises GF. Williams for its rapid progress and development as an outstanding car photographer.

  1. Koenigesegg Agera R beats the Huayra by a mile in my book.

    It looks better, it’s faster, it sounds better and hell it’s even a hypercar a member of Greenpiece would consider buying :P
