Audi race drivers had the opportunity to test the new Audi Carbon Ski, expected to be released on the market in winter 2011/2012. A special event was organized by car magazine “sport auto” and it included a duel.
DTM stars Mattias Ekström, Martin Tomczyk and Markus Winkelhock as well as the two sportscar drivers Marc Basseng and Marco Werner were invited to an unusual competition in which the ski aces and motorsport professionals competed against one another in each others discipline.
On the first day it was a matter of controlling an Audi S4 around the winter course in Zell am See devised by the Audi driving experience. On the second day the opponents completed a giant slalom in Saalbach-Hinterglemm for which prototypes of the new Audi Carbon Ski were used.
In the combined discipline of driving and skiing the Austrian World Cup legend Helmut Mayer won ahead of Nordschleife specialist Jörg Viebahn and Audi DTM driver Martin Tomczyk. Mattias Ekström had to forego the skiing due to another appointment.
