Video: Spectator Killed in Tragic Accident at Rally Legend 2016

The 2016 edition of Rally Legend came to a tragic end after one spectator was killed at a special stage in San Marino, Italy. 57-year old Henry Anselmino was watching the rally from a spectator zone when the #44 Renault Clio Maxi of Bonaso Enrico and Palazzi Alice went off the road at high speed, hit the bales protecting the run-off path before smashing into the spectators. Anselmino died on impact, eight more people were injured in the 11:56 AM incident.

The Rally organizers immediately cancelled the special stage, which ultimately marked the end of Rally Legend 2016. First responders arrived on site and treated the wounded who were then transferred to the hospital using ambulances. The award ceremony was also cancelled as a sign of respect.

Rally Legend is one of the most spectacular events on the Motorsport calendar, drivers come from far and wide including current WRC competitors but its the presence of the golden age rally cars that makes it a must watch event. For this year, legendary cars such as the Toyota Celica and the Audi Quattro were present while the WRC active driver list comprised of Hyundai’s Hayden Paddon and Volkswagen Motorsport team.
