We recently came across this rather special version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class generation rolled out in the late 1970’s. This particular model, the Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC AMG ‘Special Koenig’ (W126), was the most potent version of that era’s Mercedes-Benz flagship model line.
Offered for sale by an Italian dealership, this particular example seems to be in excellent shape. First registered in the first month of 1984, the classic 560 has only 27.000 kilometers on the odometer.
Deliveries of the SEC 560 started during the 1980’s and production was finally ceased in the beginning of the 90’s. The SEC 560 featured a 5.5-liter V8 under the hood as standard, good for about 400 hp and 500 Nm of torque.
What’s special about this specific model besides the fine state it has been kept in, is the fact it was modified by Koenig back in the day. Known officially as ‘Koenig Specials’, Koenig was known as one of the most respectable tuning houses in Germany and showed their expertise on a variety of cars including several Ferraris and Porsches. Their most notable work is without a doubt the 1,000 bhp twin-turbo Ferrari Testarossa (Koenig Competition).
Back to this special 560 SEC AMG, it comes with Mercedes’ 4G-TRONIC automatic transmission from back in the day. It has had only two owners so far and is specced with the most comforting features of its time. These include a full leather interior, electric windows, a roof that can be opened and the original stereo installation.
