Mark Higgins has set a new world record at the Isle of Mann circuit for an all-wheel drive car, using the 2016 Subaru WRX STI TT car that was jointly prepared by Subaru of America and Prodrive UK.

Higgins smashed his previous record on the 37 mile track with an average speed of 128.73 mph and a time of 17.35 – the previous record was 116.47 mph and a time of 19.26. Prodrive has a long history of perfecting high performance Subaru cars, in fact, they have won six world rally championships (3 manufacturers and 3 drivers titles) with Subaru. Subaru Technical International was also part of this build which was specifically tailored for the Isle of man circuit.

After setting the new record, Higgins said, “It was an amazing run today considering we were running in very hot conditions and the tarmac was quite soft. With lower temperatures we would be making more horsepower, so I still believe we have more left in terms of speed, but it is great to have another record in the bank. The chassis on this new car is fantastic to drive. It makes a difference driving a car custom designed for this course. It really allowed me to pick up time in each sector in the more technical parts of the course.”
