Gumpert Apollo is the First Crash of 2016 Gumball 3000

There we have it, the first crash of this year’s Gumball 3000 rally happened earlier this morning during the drive from Edinburgh to Manchester and involved one of the most unique cars attending this year’s edition of the world famous rally.

Team 10 showed up in a Gumpert Apollo, a V8 powered supercar produced between 2005-2012 in Altenburg, Germany. Having endured the first day of the rally from Dublin to Edinburgh, it was already the second day of the rally that the German supercar slid off a Scottish road and ended up in a ditch. A somewhat detailed slideshow of photos show how team 10 lost control off the car.

The car seems to be severely damaged and surely won’t make the arrival party in Bucharest this week. This video shows how the car is still running but that it took quite some time to deal with the aftermath of the crash.

After a mid-day stop in Manchester the Gumball 3000 rally continued its journey towards London, where all contestants will stay overnight. Hopefully team 10 is able to arrange a substitute car and can still ‘enjoy’ the rest of the rally towards Bucharest, with stops at Germany’s ‘Europa Park’, Prague and Sibiu in-between.
