Spy shots of the next generation Porsche Cayenne have been captured as the SUV undergoes testing.

While an updated version of the Porsche Cayenne was just recently released, Porsche is already hard at work developing the all-new model. The new Cayenne will likely receive a new chassis that is based on a shortened and adjusted version of VW’s MLB SUV platform. The same MLB platform can already be found underpinning the 2015 Audi Q7, so using a similar version of the chassis on the new Cayenne makes sense. The same chassis will likely be used on the future Bentley SUV that is currently under development as well.

The MLB architecture uses a mixture of aluminum, carbon fiber and ultrahigh-strength steel which translates to a lighter, stiffer frame than currently offered. Thanks in part to its new chassis, the new Cayenne will weigh at least 200 pounds less than the current model.

Exterior styling is expected to take many of its cues from the Panamera Sport Turismo concept as well as the recently released Macan crossover. Engine options have not been leaked, but don’t expect the Cayenne to stray too far from Porsche’s current offerings.

The next-gen Porsche Cayenne will likely be released in 2017 and be sold as a 2018 model year vehicle. In the meantime, check out the gallery for a first look at the new Cayenne undergoing development work.
