Almost 1000 Maserati Quattroportes are being recalled across the United States due to a potential issue with the battery.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the insulating cap for the battery’s positive cable for the alternator and starter motor may not have been installed properly. Additionally, the recall states that the cable itself may not have been correctly fastened in the engine bay.

The issue increases the chance of the cable shorting out and therefore potentially starting a fire in the engine bay. It could also cause the car to stall “increasing the risk of a crash”.

To remedy the issue, Maserati dealers will inspect the vehicles to see if the issues are present. If they are, the starter motor cable assembly will be replaced. The 984 examples affected were produced between October 1 2013 and December 31 2013.
