Although we have been sitting on the information of the brand new Mercedes-AMG E63 for a while, the brand new performance saloon celebrated its world debut at the 2016 LA Auto Show yesterday. Mercedes’ show area hosted the Edition One version of the range topping Mercedes-AMG E63 S, a limited run edition only available for the first year it is in production.

While the car’s design was somewhat predictable, exciting things happened under the car’s skin when it was in development. It touches new boundaries, an insane 612 hp and 850 Nm of torque in combination with an all-wheel drive system secure a 0-100 km/h time of 3.4 seconds.

The Edition One version that is at the show boasts a similar shade of ‘Magno’ grey with matt finish to the C63 S Edition One, bringing out the car’s design lines quite nice. The fact that it is an AMG is clearly underscored by the aggressive wide stance courtesy of the furious front apron and wider wheel arches.

The brand new E63 S found itself in good company at the Mercedes-Benz stand in LA. One of its companions is the new Mercedes-AMG GT-R that was unveiled earlier this year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. The ‘Beast of Green Hell’ was thought to be the most powerful AMG the German brand would reveal this year with an insane 585 horsepower output. However, the new E63 S clearly tops that with 612 horses, which also puts the competition aside (Audi RS6 Performance, 605 hp and BMW M5 with 560 hp respectively).

The GT-R will be the faster car by all means, but it is certainly food for thought. Either way we are very excited to put the new benchmark-setting E63 S to the test in Portugal next week, a comprehensive review of which will be online shortly after.
