It has been a long time in the making, McLaren Special Operation have confirmed that the iconic F1 will have hyper GT successor complete with a three seat layout and code-named BP23. Details are scarce given that the car will not be delivered to customers until 2019 when 106 examples will begin to be produced, the same number as the McLaren F1.
Given that the Hyper-GT is three years away from production it is difficult to speculate on performance figures but it would be safe to assume that BP23 will be significantly faster than any McLaren to date. The announcement comes from McLaren Special Operations, the bespoke customization arm of McLaren where customers will spec cars making them all unique. The arty drawing enclosed gives little away.
Mike Flewitt, said: “BP23 will borrow the three seat layout with central driving position made famous by the iconic McLaren F1, and it will be housed in a streamlined, shrink-wrapped carbon fibre body of great elegance. We are calling BP23 a ‘Hyper-GT’ because it’s a car designed for longer journeys but with the high levels of performance and driver engagement expected of any McLaren. A hybrid powertrain will make it one of the most powerful McLarens yet created but the car will also deliver the highest levels of refinement, enabling significant journeys to be undertaken with up to three people aboard.”
