New Audi RS5 spy shots have recently turned up. Back in May this year an RS5 test mule was spotted confirming that Audi is indeed working on a new version. The 2018 Audi RS5 is expected to be unveiled late next year.

While many of the details are taped off, the unmistakable enlarged air intakes at the front and massive alloy wheels reveal the car’s nature. The new RS5 is expected to lose quite a bit of weight compared to its predecessor and sleeker, more aggressive looks. The weight reduction can largely be attributed to the fact that the new generation RS5 will not feature a V8 engine.

That’s right, the upcoming RS5 is to get the turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 similar to the upcoming RS4. Despite the downsize in engine, the new RS5 will get more power thanks to electric turbochargers. The outgoing model’s V8 developed 450 hp, while the new turbocharged V6 produces 486 hp.

Add the new MLB platform, and about 75 kg is saved off the coupé’s total weight. Supposedly the new RS5 also gets Audi’s Quattro AWD as standard, enabling the new coupé to reach 100 km/h around 4 seconds flat. We will keep you updated as in the coming months more information will come our way.
