Recent spy images confirm that JLR is currently working on a full electric SUV using their recently unveiled F-Pace as a test mule. Rumors are that the new fully electrical SUV, which is supposed to sit in the market above the F-Pace, is to be called the ‘J-Pace’.

Although the photos clearly show exhaust pipes at the rear of the test mule, it is confirmed that the upcoming Jaguar SUV is to solely feature electrified powertrains taking on competition by the likes of the plug-in hybrid BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE as well as the fully electric Tesla Model X.

Besides offering a fully electric model, rumor has it that the J-Pace will come with a plug-in hybrid diesel powertrain in a later stage, aimed for the European market only. A gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain will expectedly be developed for both U.S. and Chinese markets.

It wasn’t until last year that it became visible JLR is actively working on introducing all-electric and hybrid alternatives to their current drivetrain offering. Seeing as its main competitors have been working on such alternatives for a while now, it will be interesting to see what Jaguar Land Rover comes up with in the near future.
