Mercedes-AMG dominated the 24 Hours of Spa 2016 Superpole by filling the first six positions with AMG GT3 cars. Clemens Schmid in the #85 HTP Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 car was the fastest man during the Friday evening session, claiming pole for the main race which kicks off tomorrow at 16:30 hours. Schmid set a time of 2m18.025s, faster than last year’s pole time.

Second place went to Felix Rosenqvist in the #88 AMG-Team AKKA ASP Mercedes-AMG GT3, he flashed across the finish line 0.009s after Schmid. The third fastest slot went to Dani Juncadella in the #56 Black Falcon Mercedes-AMG GT3 to complete an all-Mercedes top three set. As if that was not enough, the next three spots also went to Mercedes-AMG drivers. The 24 Hours of Spa 2016 will thus be a proving ground for the AMG GT3 challengers, though the McLaren drivers will always bring trouble in paradise as they are equally fast.

Thursday’s qualifying star Shane Van Gisbergen in the #58 Garage 59 McLaren 650S GT3 had little luck today. His car slowed down during his flying lap and as a result the yellow flags were called out. Unlucky too was Maxi Götz in the #86 AMG-Team HTP Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 who was on his flying lap before the caution, he would have set the fastest time but his time was cancelled.

That said, more times from the session are under investigation, the official 24 Hours of Spa 2016 grid will be published on Saturday morning.
