Audi have released the new A5 today at an event in Ingolstadt. The next generation Audi A5 replaces a model which has been in production for 9 years. It gets a fresh new look together with an all-new chassis and impressive new infotainment systems.

The new Audi A5 gets a chiselled new look. It retains similar proportions to the outgoing model with a long bonnet, stretched wheelbase and short overhangs. The bonnet gains some design creases while the side has a pronounced central design line. The grille is Audi’s stylistic single frame grille. At the back, the A5 benefits from LED rear lights and optional LED or Matrix LED headlights at the front.

From launch, the Audi A5 Coupe will get five engines: two TFSI and three TDI units. Power outputs vary between 286 hp and 354 hp for the Audi S5 Coupe. The S5 retains its 3.0 litre six-cylinder engine which packs 21 hp more than the previous model. The Audi S5 Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 4.7 seconds.

The new Audi A5 Coupe gets a manual six-speed gearbox and the seven-speed S ironic in the four cylinder engines and the 3.0 litre TDI. The more powerful 3.0 litre TDI and S5 model get the eight-speed tiptronic. Various front and all-wheel drive versions are on offer with the top range models available exclusively with quattro all-wheel drive. An optional rear-axle sport differential is also available.

The all-new chassis offers a suspension system with damper control as an option. This is integrated into the Audi drive select dynamic handling system for customisable driving styles. The A5 is fitted with electromechanical power steering or optionally with dynamic steering. Engineers were able to cut weight by as much as 60 kilograms (132.3 lb) and with a drag coefficient of 0.25, the A5 Coupé is expected to excel in the handling department.

Inside, the cockpit gets a brand new design with a horizontal architecture. Optional ambient lighting gives a choice of 30 adjustable shades. Luggage space increases by 10 litres to 465 liters. The rear seat has a 40:20:40 from the luggage compartment. Audi also offers optional gesture control for opening the luggage compartment via a foot motion.

The Audi A5 gets Audi’s virtual cockpit, a 12.3-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1,440 x 540 pixels. MMI navigation plus includes an 8.3-inch monitor for the center console. The MMI is controlled by a round touch sensitive rotary pushbutton. Audi’s traditional Bang & Olufsen sound system is also available with 3D sound as an option.
