The upcoming 2017 Ford GT will receive carbon fiber wheels as an optional extra package.

In keeping with the performance pedigree associated with the GT, Ford will offer GT owners the ability to purchase lightweight wheels made of carbon fiber. The wheels will be available in an optional clear-coat finish that will display the naked carbon fiber weave.

According to Ford, the carbon fiber wheels on the GT feature new advanced fibre and resin compounds that allow more intricately styled wheel options. The GT will become the first road vehicle in Europe to be offered with carbon-fiber wheels.

The wheels are being produced in conjunction with partner Carbon Revolution and will be offered in either a glossy clearcoat or matte finish.

Dave Pericak, Ford Performance global director, said: “Ford GT will offer the next generation in carbon fibre wheels, with an advanced resin and fibre technology that gives our designers more freedom, while also showcasing the structure of the material’s weave.”

The Ford GT is powered a 3.5-liter EcoBoost six-cylinder engine that produces in excess of 600 horsepower. Pricing starts at a reported $400,000 and up.
