A new report has surfaced suggesting that the next-generation BMW 6-Series will be developed to be a direct competitor to the Porsche 911.

The next-gen 6-Series has been earmarked for a 2018/2019 release date, meaning that this sudden change in direction for the car is coming at a very late stage in development. BMW has already given the axe to the 6 Series Cabriolet and will do the same to the Gran Coupe if the new flagship 9 Series reaches production.

According to reports, the new 6 Series will lose over 500 pounds compared to the current iteration of the car. This is due mostly to the use of BMW’s new CLAR platform.

In order to compete with the 911, the new 6 Series will receive optional air suspension, rear-wheel steering and a new quad-turbo inline-six that produces in the neighborhood of 550 horsepower.

We will keep you updated as we hear more on the next-gen 6 Series.

  1. If they (BMW) want’s to compete with Porsche’s 991.3 (@ that point) then they better have a VERY hungry Mercedes Benz GT beater to say the least (If it’s front engined) ! It’s not impossible.. It doable!
