The first spy shots of the 2018 Audi RS5 test mule spy shots have been captured.

While the new Audi A5 and S5 models won’t go on sale until September, Audi is already hard at work testing their faster sibling – the RS5. While these spy shots don’t give us any indication as to the styling of the new RS5, it does give us confirmation that RS5 development is well underway. The shots depict a test mule undergoing development work at the famed Nürburgring.

Audi has been coy regarding the reveal date of the RS5, although many are speculating it could be released as early as next year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. Another possibility is the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The RS5 will feature a more aggressive body kit and a turbocharged V6 under the bonnet. Power output is expected to be in the range of 420 to 450 horsepower thanks to addition of a second turbocharger.

  1. When an article like this comes out, I always wonder: how do we know the specific badge designation of the car? In other words, how do we know this is an RS5 (vs. an S5 or an A5)?

    • The exterior could be deceiving at times – and as it should for obvious reasons, but we try to keep a steady timeline of the models which allows us to know what variants are currently being tested. Besides the looks, the sound of the car can always help you tell what version it is. And so many other details…

  2. Looks more like the new S5. But if this is the new RS5 I would like to congratulate Audi on ruining a close to perfect car. The previous A/S/RS5 models looks way better than this. It’s freakishly ugly.
