This week the 35th edition of the Wörthersee tuning festival takes place in Austria, of course co-sponsored by Volkswagen. Speaking of Volkswagen, the German automaker is planning on stealing the show by presenting the all new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S at the festival.

Likewise to the normal Clubsport, the GTI Clubsport S packs a heavily tuned version of the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder from the current Golf GTI. The GTI produces 217 bhp, while customers of the GTI Clubsport S have 306 bhp at their disposal. In addition to the extra performance that is also home to the ‘regular’ VW Golf GTI Clubsport, the S version is set up to be a limited-production version going on sale this fall.

The Clubsport S is expected to feature many more premium features and a small performance advantage over the normal Clubsport, thanks to the use of lightweight materials. Part of the diet are possibly a new exhaust system and the removal of several equipment that strongly contribute to the car’s overall curb weight.

In a possible attempt to make the Clubsport S even more track-focused, a unique suspension and damper setup are likely standard on the new Golf race car. Initial pricing is yet to be released, but with the GTI Clubsport costing about €35k already, expect a significant premium. Volkswagen’s official press conference will commence on the 4th of May at the Wörthersee festival.
