Ever since the Lamborghini Gallardo Balboni, enthusiasts have been asking for Lamborghini to produce a rear-wheel drive car with some serious road presence. Lamborghini has answered the call with the new Huracan LP590-2.

A handful of individuals were invited out to Lamborghini Calgary to witness the unveiling of the incredible new rear-wheel-drive supercar.

Like the Gallardo LP550-2 and Balboni edition, the Huracan LP580-2 is based on the same technologies. But instead of 602 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, it produces 571 hp and 398 lb-ft to the rear wheels through the same seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

What the rear-wheel-drive setup the car is a bit more tail-happy than its AWD counterpart, which the engineers in Sant’Agata have actually enhanced through specific tuning of the electronic systems. Another feature of the LP580-2 is its lower weight of 3,062 pounds – 73 fewer than the all-wheel-drive coupe.

To set the rear-drive version apart from its AWD counterpart, Lamborghini has restyled the front and rear ends and gave it staggered 19-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli PZero tires.

Also at the dealership at the event were a stunning Pirelli Edition Aventador Roadster, among other Huracan and Aventador variants, and an Underground Racing Gallardo Superleggera that was recently purchased by a Calgary owner.
