To benefit the Care2Save Charitable Trust, Bentley have created this one-off Pop Art Bentley Continental GT V8 S Convertible together with British artist Sir Peter Blake. The bespoke Bentley is to be auctioned by Bonhams at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Bentley commissioned Sir Peter Blake to design the first pop art Bentley, appealing to the British artist’s reputation as the “Godfather of British pop art”. Sir Peter Blake has been at the forefront of the British pop art movement for decades and despite being 83 years old, he took on the project and very much stays true to his reputation.

Bentley have donated the car to Care2Save, which provides palliative and hospice care around the world. Commenting on this individual commission and the Charitable Trust, Kevin Rose, Bentley’s Member of the Board for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, says:

“Sir Peter has designed a strikingly colourful car, encapsulating exactly why he is thought of as one of Britain’s leading artists. It was a fascinating project to be part of, particularly for the skilled artisans in our bespoke Mulliner division, who worked closely with Sir Peter to bring this design to life. We have proudly supported the Care2Save Charitable Trust and the hospice movement for more than 25 years and so take great delight from donating this inimitable car for such a worthwhile cause.”

Sir Peter Blake’s trademark art is evidently visible on the car’s exterior, with possibly the most striking feature being the St James Red Heart motif that was hand painted onto the Continental Yellow hood. Other symbols of what characterize the artist’s work are the use of collage and the bright color palette that accentuates different aspects of the luxury sports car.

The interior received a similar makeover, with each seat trimmed in a different hide color; Cumbrian Green, Imperial Blue, Newmarket Tan and Hotspur continue the colorful trend that makes up the car’s exterior. The car’s steering wheel, gear leaver and dashboard equally stand out due to the eccentric finishes and coloring. To further add to the car’s exclusiveness; Sir Peter Blake’s signature has been incorporated into the headrests of all four seats and the fascia panel.

A distinctive treadplate indicating that this is Sir Peter Blake’s design and that it’s a one-off Bentley Continental GT V8 S Convertible are the visual finishing touch to the end product. The car’s true uniqueness and beauty are in its details, and so the car comes with a personalized playlist of music by Sir Peter Blake’s favorite artists.

Sir Peter Blake, perhaps best known for designing the sleeve for The Beatles iconic Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album, comments:

“I am proud to have been involved with transforming this beautiful car, and have enormous admiration for the people at Bentley who brought my design into being, to produce this one-off lovely car.”
