Mercedes-Benz’ massive model offensive of the past three years is starting to pay off big time. A recent report released by Daimler AG shows growth figures that indicate Mercedes-Benz is on top of its game. With 483,487 units sold in the first quarter of 2016, Mercedes-Benz leaves rivals BMW (478,743) and Audi (455,750) behind for the first time in years.

With that being said, Mercedes-Benz is well on track to be the best selling premium car manufacturer of 2016. The latter statement is based on the company’s growth figures, that show a rise in sales of 13%. That is 7% more than BMW and 9% more than Audi.

Mainly responsible for this massive increase in growth is the Chinese market. Mercedes-Benz have managed to double their amount of dealerships in China over the past two years and generate a sales growth percentage of no less than 36%. In total the Chinese market now accounts for 1/5 of Mercedes-Benz global sales and it’s time for Audi to start worrying about their pole position in the Chinese premium car segment.

To just give an indication how important this growth in the Chinese market is for Mercedes-Benz, despite sales having declined by 3% in the US so far this year, Mercedes still manages to come out on top globally.
